Stage Door Repertory Theatre is a wonderful little theatre located in Anaheim just off the 91 freeway and Kramer. They have been open for a full 4 years and they now into their 5th year. The shows are wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and they do a fabulous job. So the show I saw, was opening night of Private Lives.
I have to say.... quite an interesting story. I went into it not knowing a thing. I had never read the book. (Is there one?... I don't know) I never saw the movie and of course have never seen another interpretation of the story. There are only four characters in the entire show. Now normally, stories like this are very hard for me to watch especially since, have I mentioned this yet.... it was a straight play..... no singing and no dancing. So my respect for the actors to keep me entertained was extremely high. Now you must be warned, this is British comedy... aka.... very dry humor.
The owner of the establishment really hit the nail on the head in his little opening speech before the show when he said, "If the show was written in today's world, I don't think it would succeed." But regardless, I love dry British humor because its witty and majority of the time its classy too. But you have to concentrate on what they are saying because if you miss the words then you will not understand the jokes.
The show is comedy of unexpected happen stances and I loved it. It is on the longer side for me, so its not the kind of show to watch repeatedly but it will leave you laughing and smirking all the way home. The show will be performing till April 17, 2016. Hope you can see it!
