I saw a show called Nunsense last night and I am not sure where to start. I guess the very best place to start is at the beginning. Let me explain what the show is about.
In short, this show is about four Nuns and a Mother Superior trying to raise money to bury four other Nuns that were part of a total of 52 that accidently died when Sister Julia, Child of God put the wrong ingredients in a soup dish that was served to the entire convent. Well long story short the Nuns are putting on a little show too raise that money. So through out the story they each end up telling us the reason why they became a Nun and decided to devote their life to God. Now mind you, this is a comedy but it does have some serious moments.
Now to explain something to you, I am Catholic, I am a very traditional Catholic and so by saying that, I will say that I got every joke they made in the show. However as a Catholic I was also slightly offended by certain things that were done in this show. There is a very beautiful message in this show and I think it is possible to even make people see the beauty of Catholicism. But they go too far in certain scenes and I think the parts that are too far could have been taken out of the show and the message still would have been there.
The performance was given its all and I was very pleased with the talent on stage. The lights and sounds were all very well done but the comedic timing and talent was impeccable in this show. Because it is such a small cast it was so easy to really analyze certain actresses and they were all amazing. Whether I approve of the story is beside the point. The women in this production were truly amazing and I can fully understand why they had to extend their performances by two months. They originally were only going to do one month of shows and the turn out was so good. That they actually had to add two additional months to the run. Very well done, my hat goes off to you lovely ladies.
