Bonnie and Clyde the musical is showing now over in Brea at the Curtis Theatre...... So lets talk about this shall we....
Oh my gosh, I can not hold back any excitement when explaining this too you right now. FIRST OFF, the casting of this show was perfect, oh my gosh there was so much talent, you have no idea. But lets back track a little bit and really delve into this performance.
Now first off who is Bonnie and Clyde? They are two mobsters that became very famous very quickly during the the Great Depression era because they did not like what they had in life and so like most "great" villains they decided to take what they felt they deserved. Now when they first started out all they wanted was money to get out of Texas to get to California. Bonnie wanted to be a performer so off to Hollywood they went. However problems happen, people start dying, and they start getting too invested in their endeavours as robbers. Now mind you in the true story Bonnie and Clyde did not like hurting people, they always tried to let them go. They both actually wanted to make it big in the music industry but what happens in a person's childhood can drastically change what you actually will be doing with your life.
Mind you, no matter what gets said here, I do not think what any of what Bonnie and Clyde did was morally correct. That being said, Bonnie and Clyde had a very difficult childhood and life in general. Clyde was influenced by his brother and other shady friends to go start stealing cars instead of playing his music which lead him to get arrested and put in jail where he was consistantly beaten by the guards and raped by a fellow inmate. The first person that Clyde would kill in his life was that inmate. Bonnie on the other hand worked day in and day out trying to save enough money to get to California to become famous but it never worked out that way and she would later be fired from her job because she would give meals to the homeless. But thats not what this blog is about!! MOVING ON!
The Brea Curtis theatre put on a now very popular musical called Bonnie and Clyde. It is one of the most accurate depictions of their story and the music is PHENOMINAL! The music was live, the actors were professional and the sets and tech were outstanding. This is one of the most ravishing musicals being performed right now and Brea Curtis theatre did it justice.
The actor who plays Clyde was such a joy to watch, he executed the part perfectly and had a voice like an angel. Talk about a beautiful tennor and let me tell you, a high tennor at that.
The actress who plays Bonnie was so much fun to watch on stage, she was spunky, she was snarky, she was sarcastic and she was perfect. Beautiful voice both singing and speaking.
The supporting leads, Clyde's Brother Buck and his wife Blanche were and unstoppable duo of talent.
Buck was great comedy relief but at the same time had wonderful dramatic moments. A wonderful actor and singing and got the character's emotions and feelings across to the audience, perfectly.
Now of course last but under no circumstances is she the least. Blache was amazing! She has such a powerful and beautiful voice, her acting was impecable and she made me cry. The snarky sarcastic manerism are always adored but the haertbreaking emotions that she portrays are heart renching. Beautiful performance.
Of course other featured roles and Ensemble were stupendous!! I enjoyed every moment they were on stage. The singing was beautiful the acting was beautiful and other times hilarious. and all in all the artistic team could not have asked for a better cast.
